MLB Big Winners of the WBC?

USA Wins Gold but MLB could be the big winners.

Hey it’s no secret when the US is involved whether they like it or not they’re expected to win and everyone wants them to lose. On Tuesday night the USA became World Champs, knocking off a unbeaten Puerto Rico 8-0. Despite all the previous lackluster performances by the USA in the World Baseball Classic they finally can say they are champs!

This, as a whole, was the most successful WBC to date. They broke tv and attendance records for the event. The US didn’t have an easy road to gold either. They went up against the defending champs Dominican Republic (a team they never beat) to make it into the final 4 round. Next up were the two time champs Japan only to face the 2013 runner up Puerto Rico in the final game. Puerto Rico had been previously unbeaten in 2017 and already had 1 win on the US earlier in the tournament.

Jim Leyland ended his Hall of Fame worthy career the best way he could’ve imagined bringing gold home for his country. As great as the team was the starting pitching was the strength of this team. Team USA starting era was 1.25 for the tourney. Stroman who won the MVP pitched a gem having a no hitter into the 7th inning. The bats came to life and the pitchers didn’t have to worry as much. Adam Jones arguably the offensive MVP had timely at bats throughout and one hell of a catch on his Baltimore teammate Manny Machado to rob him of a home run.

It was clear each player on every team was going that extra mile for the name on their chest. Team USA even had a bald eagle statue they rubbed before each game for good luck. The Puerto Rico team all dyed their hair blonde and their fans followed.

The WBC showed us that baseball can be fun, and doesn’t have to have a bunch of unwritten rules. To see these teams gel and come together for the love of the game and the pride of their country was awesome. With everything going on in the world to see how something like baseball can give us a break and bring people together was great.

As the dust settles on the Classic and the MLB 2017 season is upon us can the MLB cash in on the baseball high in the US? Only time will tell, but the United States are Champs and they showed the future of USA baseball can be bright.
