And He’s Only Getting Better…

I want you to try to wrap your mind around this for a minute…Giannis Antetokounmpo is only 10 days older than Wisconsin Badger forward, Nigel Hayes. That means that this monster of a man could legitimately be a senior in college and playing in March Madness right now.

When he first came into the league, he was considered a very long and athletic developmental project who would need some time to learn and develop his game. He has done exactly that and just four years later this kid has not only become a suitable starter in the NBA but it’s  starting to look like all of that hard work has turned him into the next candidate for serious, greatest of all time consideration and he’s still younger than a lot of the rookies.

As recently as the beginning of this season nobody really had any clue if the “Greek Freak” actually had a position or if the Bucks would just let him run all over the place and create his own thing. Now, he has not only changed the way people with start scouting players but ultimately the way the game is played.

If you want to question what he’s made of… Last night, in a game that was important because the Bucks who were trailing Atlanta for fifth place in the East by one game, were hosting the Hawks with a chance to move into a tie. How did Giannis respond? He dropped 34 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals.

What’s even more mind blowing is when you realize that Antetokounmpo is ranked no lower than 26th in the NBA in any of those categories. He’s 15th in ppg, 16th in rebounds, 26th in assists, 6th in blocks and 11th in steals. He will block you or pick your pocket on one end of the court than literally two dribbles later throwdown in massive fashion.

There is no doubt in my mind that if he continues in the path that he is on right now, we will eventually be talking about him in the same breath we do the immortal legends of all time. He may not end up being in the top twenty scoring list of all-time and unless he moves to a big market team, he probably won’t have a ring for every finger, but the kid is magic. That is why, even though he is still a baby as far as age and experience goes, his teammates are not afraid to follow him. As a matter of fact, “Selfless” is the way rookie, Malcolm Brogdon, who is only 5 days short of being 2 years older than Antetokounmpo, described the phenom.

It’s is that mentality that should help the young star continue to develop into a superstar. He’s already turning heads and drawing attention…

And he’s just getting started!
