Badgers Headed to Sweet Sixteen After Knocking of No.1 Villanova

After collapsing hard at the end of the regular season, Wisconsin fans knew they weren’t gonna get a great seed in the tournament. When the brackets actually came out and they saw the potential matchups, it made complete sense. Whether or not the Badgers won in the first round became way less important, since they would never get past Nova in Round 2.

Fast forward to today and the Badgers are headed to their sixth Sweet 15 in seven years. That is a pace that is unmatched by any other team in the country. It is also the 4th straight trip for the upstart team who is still delirious from the joy of knocking off the defending champs.

Nobody has given this team credit after a great start to the season and that may be exactly the fuel they needed to bring out their best ball at the right time.

Nigel Hayes has received criticism for his inability to lead and to come through in pressure situations. That wasn’t the case at at all today. Hayes made a layup with 11.4 seconds left to give the Badgers a 64-62 lead and seal the victory. His 19 points led Wisconsin and he also contributed 8 rebounds to the effort.

The other player who stepped up big for Wisconsin was, Bronson Koenig, who has been extremely efficient in leading the team all season and the story wasn’t any different today. The senior added 17 points on 7-11 shooting from the field and 3-6 from downtown.

The Badgers next game will be at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
